I've heard about Apple coming up with a tablet but I never really thought they'd call it
iPad. I don't know, for some reason it just doesn't sound right to my ears, or is that because I'm Filipino? It's like a
mispronounced iPod. Anyway, first glance - wow! Sure looks nice and sleek. But is it really any good? Let's break it down shall we?
Specs:
- 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display
- 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB flash drive
- 1GHz Apple A4 chip
- Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi 802.11n (3G units also available)
- Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music (Really now?)
9.7" display - wow! Ok. Over sized iPhone is that you? Looking at its specs online kinda had me thinking if this was like a much more portable (if you may) MacBook. Well if that is what's on your mind as well, it's not. For one, no USB port. Second, it can't multitask. Those two alone are reason enough why it just isn't. So what is it then? An over sized iPhone? Well, probably. but to be able to you 3G functions you have to get the one with WiFi + 3G features which is almost double the price of its entry level unit wherein you'll only have WiFi. Here's are its prices for you reference.
iPad WiFi 16GB: $499
iPad WiFi 32GB: $599
iPad WiFi 64GB: $699
iPad WiFi+3G 16GB: $629
iPad WiFi+3G 32GB: $729
iPad WiFi+3G 64GB: $829
$829 for a 64GB with WiFi + 3G, add a couple more hundred bucks and you can get yourself a MacBook. Should I get the Wifi + 3G option that goes with 16GB storage (It's only $629.)? Ok here's a question that will answer that question. What can you store in a 16GB gadget that's over sized and will cost you $629? Not much movies or mp3's as you most likely would want to - obviously. And it doesn't even have a USB port if say you have existing files that you straight-out just want to play in your iPad. I wonder though how this'll behave in terms of syncing it with your existing Apple gadgets, hmmm..
Right now, I'll just read up some more. These are just some out-of-the-box impression I have for the Apple iPad. Let's see how people will react to this new gadget. Though personally, with Apple's wide-range of followers, this'll be a sure hit. We'll see.
