MJ’s This Is It

by ekiM on Jan.26, 2010, under Blog

Well here’s one video that you’ve most likely looked up over at YouTube.

It’s a dance video of the famous “Dancing Inmates” from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), a maximum security prison in the Visayas Region of the Philippines. The video description says the inmates were treated to a visit by Michael Jackson’s long-time choreographer Travis Payne together with dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid. Together with the inmates they came up with this dance video which I saw in our local news today.

I can well remember the very first time they made it in the news and was widely recognized worldwide for their great craft of dancing in unison. Oh man that sense of pride I felt at that time sure was indescribable to me up to now. It clearly manifests that only if we as a country will unite, nothing is impossible.

These antics makes me really proud of being a Filipino. Forget the crappy political system we have here, right now I just want to ponder on the positive things of being a Filipino and that’s somehow within each and everyone of us – with a great degree of discipline, we can make things like these happen and make ourselves known to the international community.

The video was uploaded about four days ago and currently has 881,157 views and counting.

If you haven’t watched it yet, here’s the video. Enjoy!

**I usually embed videos in my blog for the main reason that I don’t want to keep looking them up on YouTube, I could simply log into my website and watch it from here.

Definitely Better

by ekiM on Jan.24, 2010, under Blog

I’m pretty much sure you’ve heard this new song by Lady Gaga entitled Bad Romance. It’s not really that new since it’s been playing over the radio for quite awhile now. Personally, what do you think of the song? When I first heard the song over the radio I thought it was crap, but as you get to hear it more often you just kinda learn to appreciate it. Even gives you that LSS effect. Hah! Anyway.

Now I’m not sure if you’ve seen this video at YouTube, she did a cover of the song and when I saw it I was like – Wow! This song isn’t really that bad – so maybe it’s the artist? Well judging by the name one need not explain – I guess. So anyway, if you haven’t seen this one yet I tell you it’s worth the four minutes and thirty-nine seconds of you day. Enjoy!

She looks familiar doesn’t she? You guys know that girl from Disney who kept taking naked pictures of herself? Hah! Ya, that one.. Anyway, this girl is really awesome, need I mention beautiful? You probably thought of that already at first look. ;)

I personally like the 3:14 part. Noice!

One for the Books

by ekiM on Jan.24, 2010, under Blog

I just noticed, my post Bagong Buwan is now the most popular entry I have here.. Hah! Anyway, that’s probably the most “searched” of all the topics I’ve posted – guess that’s the main reason behind it. New Moon, ya, that’s what it’s about – or Bagong Buwan in our native tongue. It’s just a senseless entry on the movie. Oh and still, I haven’t seen the movie yet. Hmmm..

Anyway this entry ain’t about that.

Finally got to watch the movie Avatar. Which, I’d say got me more interested than New Moon. We were hoping to be seated on the 3:00 P.M. screening but man these IMAX 3D tickets sell like hot pan cakes. Which was rather fitting when my colleague sent me a text message saying he won’t be able to come to work – yet again, so it would’ve been a bummer if we got our tickets for the 3PM screening then only to find out that I won’t be off ’til 6:00 P.M. that day. Oh and it was a Sunday – work on a Sunday – ya I know, not something you’d want to be doing. If you had a choice that is – in my case I don’t. So anyway, we got ticket for the 10:00 P.M. screening. Yup, that late to get good seats for that day. But it’s all good, following day is my day off from work, and also we got to attend Sunday mass.

OK. About IMAX and this thing they call The IMAX Experience. Uhm, it was alright. (Right, I can do better than that.) OK it was “cool”. Seriously it is. Watching the movie with it being close to real with you seated only a few meters away than usual from the screen gives you a different feel to it, one to experience and not let pass. Not to mention the great surround-sound that adds to that effect of you actually being part of the action on the screen. These are just the good side of it though, so of course it’s “cool”. It’s cool that way because it’s sounds cool that way. The moment I put my 3D glasses on got me excited really, but later on found it quite annoying. In the States, at Universal Studios they have these short 3D experience like Terminator 2 : 3D, Shrek. Those were cool yet short but to me watching these kind of stuff shouldn’t take over an hour or so. Sure the detail was nice but it’s an entire movie, and you can’t really absorb all that detail nor appreciate it for the reason that it is quite a  lengthy movie. I’d say I’m after the story more than the detail of each scene. Hey, I’m not trying to discourage any of you who gets to read this and haven’t tried it yet. I would even tell you to go ahead and watch Avatar on IMAX Theater for you to “experience” it yourself. I’m in no position really to say this and that I’m just stating what I think about this whole thing. Sure it was fun, awesome even. Can’t help but notice how movies have evolved, and I’m just excited that I get to live through the shift.

Avatar by the way is one great film. It was great in ways of being able to depict precise emotion in one’s animated character, the movements, gesture, and facial expressions even. It’s just one of its kind. **Right now I think it’s still climbing its way up to number one trying to knock-off a movie of  its same caliber, the movie Titanic – which as we all know was directed by the creator of Avatar as well – sir James Cameron.

So anyway to sum this entry all up; hands-down Avatar is a great film, the IMAX Experience sure was one great experience – I must say. But not something I’d want to repeat – it’s one for the books though – ‘ika nga nila.

That’s it for now! No hate, just love. Peace!
